This Is Not a Drill | Get Well Soon Card (Mice Tools / Lawn Fawn)

by Kylie

Hi everyone! After I gave Al his birthday card last month (see here), he mentioned that one of his colleagues was unwell and asked if I could make a Get Well card using the same stamp set. He thought it would brighten his colleague’s day, and honestly, how could I say no?

An idea came to me straight away—though it did mean I had to go shopping for the Lawn Fawn Workshop Backdrop: Portrait die. Of course, it did! haha

Building the Scene

Once the die arrived, I began by using the Workshop Backdrop: Portrait die to die-cut two panels of brown cardstock and one white panel. I layered the two brown pieces together and adhered them to the card front. Then I sponged a little Manatee ink around the edges of the white die-cut piece before adhering it directly to the card front.

Next, I adhered some double-sided adhesive to white cardstock and die-cut the letters for my sentiment using the Stampin’ Up!® Mini Alphabet die set. I always use double-sided adhesive before die-cutting fiddly pieces. It makes it SO much easier to adhere them to any project. I then used Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink to colour all of the letters. You might wonder why I didn’t just use orange cardstock, but I needed that specific shade of orange. It didn’t take long to add the colour, so it was worth it.

One of my favourite parts of creating this card was stamping and colouring all the mice and tools from Mice Tools and Mice Tools Add-On. I’m slowly getting better at colouring these cute little creatures, and I love how good they look in their navy overalls. So cute!

All that was left to do was adhere the sentiment and then add the mice and tools. Most of the mice were popped up with foam tape, while the tools were adhered directly to the card front. And of course, I had to include the “This is Not a Drill” sentiment. It worked perfectly in that space. It’s one of my favourite things about the card as I love a good pun.

Here’s the card…

It meant a lot that Al asked me to make a card for his colleague. I think we all know how a handmade card brings joy. Hopefully, this card will really brighten this person’s day, and I am glad I could play a small part.

Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
