Hi everyone! If you saw last Friday’s post, you’ll know I created a card inspired by Mona Toth. Well, she’s influenced today’s card too, in another way. Usually when I craft, I stamp and colour multiple images at once so I can mix and match as I go, saving leftover pieces for future projects. Because of this, I already had another rainbow-coloured floral image from Altenew’s Build-A-Garden: Happy Blossoms set ready to use. Originally, I planned to keep this card super simple with a white background, maybe using an embossing folder for texture. Then I remembered another card by Mona where she created a colourful sponged background that looked amazing. I thought that would be SO fun to try. While I have created ink-blended backgrounds many, many times before, I have never attempted one with such a bright, vibrant colour palette.
Creating the Background
For the background, I stuck with the same ink colours I used on the main floral image: Catherine Pooler inks in Pucker Up, Limoncello, and Cummerbund. I blended the ink onto a white cardstock panel, then sprayed it with water to give it a bit more texture and interest.
At that point, though, I was really disliking how it looked. I sprayed it a second time to see if that would help, but when I layered my floral pieces over the top, my immediate thought was, no, this just does not work. I was genuinely about to throw the panel in the bin when I stopped myself. Just because it wasn’t my usual preference didn’t mean someone else wouldn’t love it! If someone enjoys bright, vibrant colours, this card might be exactly their style. So, I decided to trust the process and finish the card anyway.
Here’s the card…
Truthfully, I am still a bit torn by the result…but it is growing on me! It is so bright! I am so pleased that I stepped out of my comfort zone and actually used this panel. What would you have done? Would you have used this panel for the background, or would you have switched it out for something more subtle?
Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
