Hope Your Day is Legendary (Don’t Stop Believing / Hero Arts)

by Kylie

Hi everyone! Have you seen the Don’t Stop Believing collection from Hero Arts? When I first saw this range, I thought it was such a different collection from anything I have used recently, and it immediately went on my wishlist. Of course, that wishlist immediately turned into a shopping situation. I couldn’t wait to start using it! It is my friend’s birthday tomorrow, and I thought the Lake of Legends stencil and the Gentle Giant die set would be a perfect combination for a card.

Creating the Scene

Truthfully, the hardest part for me about creating this card was choosing my colours for creating the background. I made a couple of attempts which…well…yeah, they looked awful, before deciding to play it rather safe. I used Smoky Slate (Stampin’ Up!®), Tumbled Glass (Distress Ink), and Mowed Lawn (Distress Ink). These colours worked well together.

After inking the background, I moved on to creating ‘Nessie’ using the dies from the Gentle Giant die set. I chose two shades of purple and die-cut them before gluing them together. After adding a piece of double-sided adhesive to some grey, white, black, and pink cardstock, the elements of the boat, as well as the eye for ‘Nessie’, were die-cut. The next step was to adhere it all together.

I chose a simple white card base for this card. I slightly trimmed the inked scenery panel so that when adhered to the card base, only a small border of white showed. ‘Nessie’ was then adhered directly to the card, but I made sure it overhung the edge of my inked panel.

The sentiment was chosen from the Unbelievably Awesome stamp set. It was stamped in Versamark before being white heat-embossed. The stamp set has a coordinating die set, so that made it easy to trim the sentiment to the right size. This was then directly adhered to the card. And voila! The card was done!

Here’s the card…

Ooh, here’s another one…

While I was writing this post, I decided to try another colour combination as I really wanted to use greens for ‘Nessie’. So, here it is. I used Smoky Slate (Stampin’ Up!®), Tumbled Glass (Distress Ink), and Highland Heather (Stampin’ Up!®). I actually really like this combination. Next time, I think I might use deeper, darker shades of purple.

This was such a fun scene to build, even with the early colour struggles. I really enjoyed bringing all the elements together and seeing it come to life. I’d love to know what you think and whether you’ve tried this collection yet!

Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
