Have a Magical Birthday (Unbelievably Awesome | Hero Arts)

by Kylie

Hi everyone! Today, I am sharing another card featuring items from the Hero Arts Don’t Stop Believing collection. One of the things I liked most about this collection is the Unbelievably Awesome stamp set with the cute Loch Ness Monster. It is darling! I immediately thought I could make some cute scenes with it. I was also immediately paralysed by, I don’t know, the fear that I wasn’t going to get it “right”. Seriously, why do we do that to ourselves? I always recommend just playing and experimenting, but often I get stuck in my own head.

One way I moved past this paralysis was to start with a base I had used before and knew looked good. For this card, that meant using the Lake of Legends stencil (also from this collection) to create the backdrop.

Once this backdrop was created, I stamped a heap of Nessie images, seaweed, and fish. They were coloured using Copic Markers (you can see the colours I used for Nessie below) and then die-cut. I recommend creating lots of images so you can play around with your design. I find it frustrating to be working on assembling my design, realising one more of ‘something’ would have been perfect, and then having to dig all my supplies out again.

After creating all my images, I played around with the design layout. I added the flag sentiment from the Unbelievably Awesome Banners stamp set (from this same collection) so that it looked like Nessie was holding it. I thought the card looked good at this point, but decided that a simple white Stitched Rectangle Frame (Lawn Fawn) would finish it off perfectly.

I think this card was a good reminder for me that sometimes the hardest part of creating isn’t the actual making – it’s getting out of my own head.

It is so easy to feel like every card needs to be completely new, use a new technique, or be something we have never tried before. Sometimes the best way to get creating again is to start with something familiar. A layout, a colour combination, a stencil, or a technique that you already know works can give you the confidence to experiment and play. I hope my card inspires you to do the same!

Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
