Changing things up with patterned paper (Flowers Fair)

by Kylie

Hi everyone! Today I’m changing things up … with patterned paper. At first glance, this card might seem quite familiar as it uses the same stamp set, Flowers Fair by Stampin’ Up!®, and the same colours as a card I shared last week. You can see that card here. As I coloured a heap of these images, I thought I could change up how I use them. I didn’t have to do anything different if I didn’t want to, but since I did, patterned paper felt like a great option.

Changing Things Up with Patterned Paper

For today’s card, I added a layer of patterned paper behind the stamped panel. The patterned paper is from the Vicki Boutin/American Crafts paper pack, Bold & Bright. The colour purple matched the purple I had used for my colouring, so that made the choice easy. Patterned paper is an easy way to add interest to any card! In my design, the patterned paper helps to frame my focal panel, giving the card a bit more depth.

I thought I would also change up the sentiment used for this card, although I still wanted it to be a birthday card. The “Happy Birthday” sentiment from the Hay There stamp set (Lawn Fawn) seemed like the perfect choice. I stamped it in Versamark ink before white heat-embossing it. I like how the black pops against the bright colours.

    Here’s the card…

What I love most about this card is how different it feels from the previous one, despite making only a couple of tweaks. Next time you make a card, try adding a layer of patterned paper and see what happens. It might be just the change you need to take it to the next level. Do you like using patterned paper, or do you hoard it instead?

Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
