Wishing You a Happy Birthday (Whoosh, Kites! / Lawn Fawn)

by Kylie

Hi everyone! Sometimes a stamp set ends up in your collection because you have a specific project in mind. Other times, you buy it simply because it’s cute. The Lawn Fawn Whoosh, Kites! stamp set definitely fell into the latter category for me! Often, when I create with small critters, I find it easier to use a small panel and create my scene there rather than on the entire card base. However, this time I was determined to use the entire card front.

Creating a Full-Card Scene

One of the reasons I thought I would try using the entire card front was because of the kites. The long strings would allow me to fill the space without making the design feel crowded, and the small clouds would enable me to fill in some of the white space, so it wasn’t so empty. I am so not good with too much white space.

I started by stamping, colouring and die-cutting all of the pieces. Next, I cut two panels from white cardstock using the Stitched Rectangles dies. One panel I die-cut again using the Grassy Border dies. The larger background was sponged with Merman ink, and then I watered down some of this ink to splatter for a little more interest. The grass was sponged with Freshly Cut Grass. I also watered down a little of this ink so I could splatter it onto the grass panel for more interest.

The next step was to stamp the sentiment. The sentiment was from two stamp sets – Whoosh, Kites! and Yappy Birthday! After this was done, it was a matter of adhering the pieces to the card front. Most were adhered directly, but I decided to pop up the kites using foam adhesive. The piece was finished with some Wink of Stella on the kites, butterflies, flowers and the kite string reel.

Here’s the card…

Once I had roughed out where I wanted everything to go, the card didn’t actually take long to make. Using the entire card front made much more sense than creating a small panel, so I am glad I did this. Next time, I am going to try it in landscape and see if I can create something else I am happy with.

Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
