Wishing You a Happy Birthday – Take 2 (Whoosh, Kites! / Lawn Fawn)

by Kylie

Hi everyone! Last week, I shared a cute card featuring the Lawn Fawn Whoosh, Kites! stamp set (see here). It was such a fun card to make that I decided to create another version. The original was designed in portrait format, but this time I switched things up and made it a landscape card. Originally, I wondered whether having less sky would make the design feel a little squashed, but it really didn’t.

For this card, I used all the same products and colours. The main difference was the layout. I felt I needed a few extra mice and kites to balance the scene and fill the wider space.

I say all the time that I like to make cards that are the “same, but different”, and this is a perfect example. It would be fun to experiment with other changes too. Imagine a bright blue sky or a sunset background. You could use a darker green for the grass, add rolling hills, colour the mice grey or another colour, or switch the kites to a bold primary colour palette. Really, there are so many changes you could make.

You don’t need to reinvent the wheel every time you create. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with doing that either! I think playing around with small changes teaches us a lot about what we like, what works, and what doesn’t. It’s also a great way to keep creating when the mojo goes missing.

Okay, let’s take a look at the card.

Here’s the card…

I am so happy with this card. The only thing I might change is to add a string to the kite in the bottom-right corner. My thinking was that the little mouse hadn’t launched the kite yet and was only holding it, but when I looked at the photo, I realised the kite would still be attached to the spool by a string. I might see if I can fix that.

Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
