Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing a couple of bright and happy floral cards made with the Scalloped Petals set by Concord & 9th. The design itself came together really easily because it is such an easy set to use, but I did run into one small hiccup … the sentiment.
When the Sentiment Isn’t Quite Right
I wanted these cards to be birthday cards, but the set doesn’t include a large “Happy Birthday” which fills the whole of the flower element. The sentiments that filled that big, beautiful flower weren’t quite right (although I did end up using the “have a beautiful day” sentiment as I thought you could then write, “Happy Birthday” on the inside.
Rather than changing the layout, I decided to try something different and used my Cricut Joy to write the sentiment directly onto the cardstock. I’m still very new to the Cricut Joy, but this felt like the perfect moment to test it out.
Cricut vs Stamp – Which Works Better?
The stamped version is soft and subtle, and works beautifully on the card design. The Cricut version, though, gives you the freedom to customise exactly what you need. Being able to scale the sentiment to fit the design made a big difference, especially for a card like this where the flower takes up so much space. It’s definitely something I’ll keep in mind for future cards when my stamps don’t quite have the right sentiment. Of course, you know I now need to see if I can find something like a metallic pen and see if that elevates the card even further.
Quick tip: After using the Cricut Joy to “write” the sentiment, I went in and added some more Cotton Candy ink around the edge. Unfortunately, I hadn’t realised the Cricut ink needed a bit of time to dry, and I smudged my first attempt. My recommendation would be to ink beforehand, or let the Cricut ink have some drying time before any further action is taken.
A Simple Design to Repeat
This layout is one of those designs you can easily recreate in different colours or for different occasions. Sometimes you don’t need to reinvent the whole card – simply changing the sentiment gives it a completely different feel.

The photos do not do these cards justice. They are so lovely in real life. All I need now is for Concord & 9th to create a “Happy Birthday” stamp that fits beautifully in that flower, and I would make a heap of cards. In the meantime, thank goodness for the Cricut!
Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
