Hi everyone! Happy February! Recently, I went to the local coffee shop where I sell my cards. The waitress rushed over. She was eager to chat. She had a special request—more children’s birthday cards! I knew right away this was something I needed to fix.
When I saw the new Darling Dinos stamp bundle from Stampin’ Up!®, I knew it was the perfect choice. I placed my order through my friend (and demonstrator) Melissa Gifford, and when it arrived, I couldn’t wait to start creating—it is so cute!
One of the sentiments in the set reads, “Hope your birthday is DINO-mite!”—how fun is that? I wanted to make it the star of my design. To do this, I stamped “Hope your birthday is” at the top and used multiple colours of die-cut letters (from the Mini Alphabet die set) to create the word DINO-mite in bold, playful lettering.
For the card base, I used Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock and layered some patterned paper from the retired Flowers & More Designer Series Paper from Stampin’ Up!®. Next I cut a panel which would be the focal point and layered it on a border of coloured cardstock. All of the cards above feature the following Stampin’ Up!® colours – Tahitian Tide, Parakeet Party, Polished Pink and Pale Papaya.
I stamped and die-cut one of the adorable dinosaurs, a bunch of balloons, and a party hat. I assembled them on a panel of white cardstock, adding a touch of green ink blending at the bottom and a soft blue wash over the rest to create depth. This was then layered on the card base. Of course I then added LOTS of shimmer with the Wink of Stella Shimmer brush.
After making the first card, I decided to switch things up for the next three. I added rocks for extra detail, reduced the number of balloons, and instead of hand-drawing the balloon strings (which felt a little too bold), I used the string stamp included in the set—it looked much better!
Here are the cards…
After a rocky start, I ended up having so much fun with these cards. I encourage you to play around with your designs too like I did with each of the above! Try changing the orientation of the card, or changing up the colour palette. Use different patterned papers, or create your own background. Add in extra elements (or take some away. If the stamp set had a present stamp, I would have nestled a few presents around the dinosaur and created another card design. Each card will go to a different person, so it doesn’t matter if they’re similar. Have fun experimenting!
What do you think? Would you give a dino-themed birthday card a try? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you have a great day!
