Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing two very similar birthday cards I made for two different friends – both dog lovers. As soon as I saw these stamp sets from Lawn Fawn, Yappy Birthday and Yappy Birthday Add-On, I thought of them immediately. Don’t you love it when that happens? When a product isn’t just cute, but you instantly know who it’s for? These pups are full of personality and just perfect for celebrating fellow dog people.
Colouring… and More Colouring!
I’m not going to lie – these cards are colouring-intensive. If you aren’t a fan of colouring, they might not be as fun to create as they were for me. Although at first, I was stuck. What colours should I use? I wanted my cards to be cohesive but also colourful.
In the end, I chose a rainbow-inspired colour palette. Once I had settled on those colours, I repeated them across the different accessories – party hats, balloons, bunting and other little details. Having a limited palette made everything feel cohesive without overthinking it.
If you’re working with sets like this, I highly recommend colouring a whole heap of images in one sitting – way more than you think you will need. Pop on a show or some music and just colour. You’ll end up with a great collection of images to work with, and anything left over can be kept for later use.
Here’s the first card…
Here’s the second card…
These cards were so much fun to make, as I love making scene cards. I also love to colour (once I know which colours I am using).
Are you a scene builder, or do you prefer clean and simple? I’d love to know!
Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
