A Valentine’s Card with Room to Breathe

by Kylie

Hi everyone! If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know that working with white space doesn’t come naturally to me. I’d love to be able to create those gorgeous cards with lots of white space. Instead, I tend to fill every area and add just one more element. With today’s card, I could actually see in my mind how it would look with lots of white space, and I thought I would give it a try. The soft blended background, simple layout, and limited elements helped everything feel more open. It still tells a story, but without feeling busy — and I’m so happy with how that turned out. This card features the super cute Stampin’ Up!® bundle, Valentine Kisses.

Small Details That Make the Scene

Once again, the bears are the stars of the card, paired with the sweet kissing booth. I sponged on some blue ink for the sky, and green for the grass, then layered on the bears, bird, and kissing booth.

Next, I wanted to add hearts and kissing booth trim, but I didn’t have the perfect shade of glitter paper, so I coloured carefully on some white glitter cardstock from Spellbinders with a red marker. Tip: If you give this technique a try, please colour gently, as you can ruin your nib.

One little detail I really wanted to include was the bird singing. To make that happen, I used a music note stamp from the Capybaras! stamp set by Lawn Fawn. It’s a small addition, but it adds another layer of personality to the scene.

I finished the scene by white heat embossing the sentiment on black cardstock, which I then trimmed and popped up with foam adhesive.

Here’s the card…

I am so happy with this card. It is simple and not overworked, but so cute too. If you also struggle with white space, I hope you will give it another try. You might surprise yourself. Oh, and yes, this will (at this stage) be the card I give to Al on Valentine’s Day!

Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
