Easter Scene Card Ideas (And Stopping the Overwhelm)

by Kylie

Hi everyone! Can you believe it is almost Easter? Where has this year gone? Today I’m sharing one of my favourite Easter scene card ideas, created using adorable Lawn Fawn stamps. I needed to make some cards for Easter, and one of the things I love doing is creating scene cards.

Building the Scene

When creating any scene, I usually start with the stamp set. What stamps do I want to use? In this case, it was the Eggstraordinary Easter set from Lawn Fawn. I stamped multiple images I thought I would use, and more than a few extras. This way, if I mess up any of the colouring, I still have spares, and if I need additional pieces to round out my design, I have them ready.

I also consider the products I might use to create the background. Sometimes this means grabbing a die that’s already on my desk from a previous project – does anyone else do this? For this card, I used the Stitched Hillside Backdrop: Landscape, which I had been using for other projects, the Grassy Border die (one of my go-tos for adding extra texture to my hills), and the Stratus Cloud Background Stencil, which was also still on my desk from previous projects.

For my background, I thought I would try something a little different: a sunset look. I thought the pretty pinks (Picked Raspberry) and yellows (Sunflower) against the green grass (Freshly Cut Grass) would look great. After sponging the inks with a blending brush, I then used the same ink colours to add some clouds to the sky.

Stopping the Overwhelm with Simple Colour Choices

Once the base was in place, the next step was placing all my critters in the scene. I was very pleased I had stamped additional grass pieces, as I ended up using more than I had thought. All of the images were coloured with Copic markers. I initially had trouble choosing which colours to use. There were a lot of images and, at first, I was thinking of using all the colours of the rainbows in pretty pastel tones. Truthfully, I was taking way too long to choose the colours, and it was actually becoming overwhelming. I stopped and considered my options. In the end, I decided to use the same three blends across the egg designs. This immediately helped. Going simple is always a good idea. Now, I could have spent the time trying different combinations, but when time is tight, narrowing down your choices makes things so much easier. Of course, repeating the colours also helps make your design cohesive.

After the images were coloured, I stamped the sentiment, using Versafine Black Onyx ink (I love how dark this ink stamps). Next, I placed all my pieces on the card, and when I was happy with the placement, I adhered them. Most were adhered directly to the card, but I popped a few pieces up using Altenew Instant Dimension Foam Tape.

The final touch was, of course, adding some shimmer to the card using Wink of Stella. You cannot have an Easter card without some shimmer!

Here’s the card…

This was such a fun card to make — once I let go of the overwhelm and simplified my choices. I think it looks so super cute! Hopefully, the tip of simplifying your colour choices can help you too next time, when all the options start to feel a bit too much.

Hope you have a wonderful day! Thanks so much for stopping by!
