You Are My True North (Sailing Home)

by Kylie

Hi everyone, today I’m celebrating the anniversary of my first date with my partner. Yay us! haha To mark the occasion I decided to make a card. I thought the Sailing Home stamp set and the coordinating Smooth Sailing dies would be the perfect choice for his card. He loves being outdoors and on the water and the nautical theme really appealed.

The card I am sharing is a kind of hybrid of lots of ideas I’ve seen around the place, including the Annual Catalogue.

I started by creating my card base out of Crumb Cake cardstock. I adhered Adhesive Sheets to another panel of this cardstock and added the rope trim die and cut out a heap of this shape. Using the Adhesive Sheets made it super simple to remove the backing and then stick the piece in position. I used my Blending Brush to add some Crumb Cake ink to another piece of the Crumb Cake cardstock and then die cut the ship’s wheel. I wanted it to have the same tone but be a little darker. I then very lightly rubbed the same Blending Brush over my card base so that it had just a hint of darkness in places.

The next step was to create the focal panel. I die cut a rectangle, using the Stitched Rectangles dies, and then added a light wash of Balmy Blue ink to the background. I stamped, on a separate sheet of Basic White cardstock, the Lighthouse in Gray Granite and the anchor in Basic Gray. After die-cutting these pieces, I positioned them roughly where I thought they might go and stamped the compass (in Crumb Cake) and the sea birds (in Misty Moonlight). I then matted this panel on some Misty Moonlight cardstock.

The next step was to put it all together. I added some twine from the Bakers Twine Essentials pack. I tied it around the panel and through the anchor before knotting it in place. I also tied additional knots along the tail ends for some extra interest. The rest of the pieces were then stuck in place.

The sentiment also comes from the Sailing Home stamp set. I heat embossed it with White Embossing Powder on Misty Moonlight cardstock. It comes as a long strip but I simply snipped apart the sentiment so that it fitted where I wanted it.

Here’s the card…

That’s the card for today. I hope you like it and that you’ll give it a go. If you need any products to create this card, you can find them in my online store here.
