Stampin’ Creative Global Blog Hop – June 2022 – Creative Colouring

Create a fun card using the Shaving Cream Technique

by Kylie

Hello and welcome to the Stampin’ Creative Global Blog Hop! Each month a few Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators from around the world come together to inspire! Currently, you’re visiting the blog of Kylie at Stampers Workshop in Australia! Thanks so much for hopping with us!

The theme for our June 2022 Blog Hop is Creative Colouring.

For today’s card, I wanted to do something a little different so I returned to a technique that I haven’t done in YEARS – the Shaving Cream technique. It is so fun, and easy and you can really experiment and come up with some fabulous colour combinations if you are feeling adventurous.

Start by taking a tray or paper plate and adding some shaving cream so that it is roughly the size of the paper you want to colour, eg. a card front. The Shaving Cream I used was the cheapest I could find at the local supermarket. I have to say it was pretty stinky but you don’t notice this after the project has dried. Next, add a few drops of your chosen ink colour from your Ink Refill bottle. Gently swirl the ink around using a skewer or straw. Take a panel of Shimmery White cardstock and place it onto the top of the coloured Shaving Cream making sure to cover the entire front of the panel. Lift it back up and scrape off the Shaving Cream. You’ll be left with such a gorgeous print. Put it aside to dry. You can repeat this as often as you would like. For my card, I used the Polished Pink and the Granny Apple Green Ink Refills.

Once the cardstock was dry, I added it to my Stamparatus. You don’t need a Stamparatus for this step but I wanted to fill the entire sheet with images and decided to do it in one go, plus if it didn’t stamp dark enough I could easily stamp again in the same place. I used the Happiness Abounds stamp set and stamped up all the larger flower images, and the two leaf shapes. Once stamped, I die cut them using the Blossoming Happiness die set.

Next, I created a card base from Thick Basic White cardstock. I also cut another panel of Basic White cardstock which was smaller than the card front. I used a die from the Blossoming Happiness die set to create that lovely background pattern. Before popping this panel up on the card front, I added a little Polished Pink ink (with a Blending Brush) to the card base.

The sentiment, also from the Happiness Abounds stamp set, was stamped with Versamark on Basic Black cardstock. This stamp comes in a strip but I wanted to stack the sentiment so after white heat-embossing it, I cut it in half. I also cut off a little bit of the flourish of the “h” and “y” so it didn’t look odd.

All of the elements were then adhered to the card. I decided to add a small white bow of Baker’s Twine. I also added a few Iridescent Pearls and some Wink of Stella.

Here’s the card…
