Hi everyone, are you ready to start thinking about Christmas? I know I’ve made a few cards over the past couple of months but truthfully, I’m not ready. To try and start getting into the spirit, I thought I would make a Christmas card featuring some of the gorgeous items in the Santa’s Express Suite.
The card I am sharing is approximately 20cm x 10.5cm in length which is bigger than the usual 14.8cm x10.5cm but it needed to have the extra length to fit both Santa’s engine and the two carriages.
To create the card, I started by die-cutting the train and carriages from papers in the Santa Express Designer Series Paper pack. You could always choose to stamp and colour these items using images in the Santa’s Delivery stamp set but I thought it would be fun to use the patterned paper.
After die-cutting these pieces, I picked the patterned paper with the background of the hills and cut one of them off to be my background. This patterned paper actually repeats the same image four times so you could easily make multiples of this card. I layered the scene paper onto another piece of patterned paper before adding it to a card base of Poppy Parade cardstock.
The Santa’s Trains dies has a die that looks like a train track and I die cut this twice from Smoky Slate cardstock. I adhered this to the bottom of the scene. Next, I popped up the engine and carriages with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I added some Wink of Stella to the presents, reindeer and Santa.
It was at this stage that I realised I had forgotten to include a sentiment. I tried a number of options before settling on the ‘Merry Christmas’ from the Santa’s Delivery stamp set. I stamped it in Granny Apple Green ink on Basic White cardstock and punched it out with the Cloud punch.
Before finishing the cad, I stamped the smoke rings from the Santa’s Delivery stamp set above the engine. I used Smoky Slate ink but I stamped it off before stamping onto the patterned paper so that it was very subtle.
Here’s the card…
I have to say that this was a super fun card to make. I loved watching it come together. The images are so cute and even though I love colouring, it was fun to use the pre-coloured images from the papers in the Santa’s Express Designer Series Paper pack.
