Hi everyone, happy Stampers Anonymous Blog Hop day! Thanks so much for hopping with us. The theme for today’s Blog Hop is a Colour Challenge! We were challenged to create a card using up to five (5) colours from the following colours: Grapefruit Grove, Mint Macaron, Saraha Sand, Balmy Blue and Basic Gray.
Here’s the Challenge…
Funnily enough, I actually struggle a little bit with colour challenges. I think it is because I generally have to work with colours outside my “go-to” colours. Before I began creating, I pulled out all the challenge colours ink pads and then a sheet of each colour from their respective Designer Series Paper packs. I wanted to see how they would all work together. In the end, I decided to work with Basic Gray (a great neutral) and Balmy Blue with a touch of Sahara Sand. The super cute pandas from the Wildly Happy set were crying out to be used so they were a perfect choice for this challenge.
Instead of using my Stampin’ Blends, I watercoloured the image instead. I used a combination of colouring with my markers on to an acrylic block and then picking up the colour to paint and squishing a little ink from the ink pad onto an acrylic block and then picking up the colour. I didn’t use watercolour paper, just regular paper and my biggest tip here is not to over-wet the paper as it will pill. Blending is also a little more difficult as the water soaks straight into the paper. I try and build up my colour to avoid this issue.
My other big tip is that White Bakers Twine is a perfect item to keep in your stash as it can be dyed any colour to suit your project. The easiest way to dye the twine is to get a cup with a bit of water and add a drop of refill to it. Drop the twine in and ensure it is covered. Swish it around and pull it out. Hang it out to dry. If you don’t have a refill, you can still dye your twine. I actually just used a large acrylic block and pressed the Balmy Blue ink pad into the centre. I dropped out some water (be careful not to flood the block) and then swished it around before adding my twine. It worked really well.
Here’s my card…
